About the Department:

The Department of Security, Safety, and Occupational Health strives to create a safe university environment in accordance with quality standards and safety requirements, while also focusing on enhancing performance and developing the crisis management capabilities of its personnel.

 

Objectives of the Security, Safety, and Occupational Health Department:

  • Safeguarding lives and property within the university, maintaining order, and enhancing the level of discipline within the university.

  • Manage all security operations, work to prevent incidents, address them when they occur, and mitigate their impact.

  • Guarding and protecting the buildings to prevent vandalism or the theft of their contents, and implementing all necessary security measures to safeguard the premises and the personnel working within them.

  • Organizing and monitoring building entrances and exits, and verifying the identities of individuals and university visitors when necessary.

  • Providing security for VIP visitors to the university and for delegations covering conferences, seminars, and ceremonies held at the university.

  • Implementing the security and safety system, addressing violations, and conducting investigations into them.

  • Working to ensure security and safety by enforcing traffic regulations.

  • Working to enhance the competence of the department's staff through training.

 

Functions of the Security, Safety, and Occupational Health Department:

  • Managing, operating, and maintaining security across university facilities—efficiently and continuously—in accordance with available resources, capabilities, personnel, equipment, and plans; this encompasses security enforcement, investigations, organization, and monitoring.

  • Issuing security clearances and entry permits for individuals and vehicles,

  • Issuing licenses for items and assets, as well as work permits for personnel and beneficiaries,

  • Organizing traffic, entrances, and exits, and monitoring daily operations.

  • Monitoring traffic, behavioral, and security violations, and scheduling the plans and procedures governing this in coordination with the Traffic Department and Public Security when necessary.

Executing and managing security guard contracts with service providers; monitoring daily operations and ensuring contractor compliance with contractual obligations—including stipulations regarding the number of male and female security personnel, as well as relevant articles, procedures, forms, terms, specifications, and bills of quantities—and managing the associated financial disbursements.

  • Monitoring and verifying compliance with occupational health and safety requirements across academic and administrative sites, laboratories, various facilities, and locations involving operations, maintenance, renovations, and construction; identifying needs; and drafting contracts and specifications.

  • Supervising the execution, testing, and commissioning of works—including fire pumps, water piping, alarm and warning systems, automatic fire suppression systems, fire hose cabinets, fire extinguishers, control systems, emergency gates and exits, signage, and lighting.

  • Disseminating and raising awareness of occupational safety and health concepts, policies, and practices among workers and beneficiaries.

  • Managing, coordinating, and overseeing responses to emergencies, disasters, and crises; developing proactive plans to address them; and raising awareness among university personnel regarding appropriate actions to take when such events occur.

  • Developing policies and guidelines, and implementing awareness-raising activities.

  • Identifying needs and developing current and future plans to improve the efficiency, safety, and quality of operations and facilities.

  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the direct supervisor within the scope of authority.
